So the road trip didn’t go as we all had hoped, but we did pull it together against the Indians for an impressive end to the trip. So with Joey back and now in the four spot in the line up, things are looking much more promising to reel off a run or two more a game.
One of the problems we have is our lead off batter, or should i say inconsistency of our lead off batter. When Willy gets on base, which is 28% of the time, he scores 67%of the time. Dickersons stats, he scores 49 percent of the time, come a lot from different spots in the line up. so with Dickerson leading off he scores at around the same percent as Willy. So what you ask “what does all this mean?” well it means our if our leadoff hitter gets on base, we score runs. I know this sounds like the obvious, but that’s a positive. If we can get Willy on track, or platoon him with Dickerson then our hitting problems are on track for the better. On top of that we will be getting EE back tonight or tomorrow. So lets all not sell the farm, or bag this season just yet, we are only 3 games back of the Central. With a ten game stretch playing 7 games against the division leading Brewers, and second place Cardinals. Here is a great chance to get back a few games.
So Votto’s DL stint was merely missed time, he comes back just as hot as when he left. I really have to commend him. He is one tough guy. The guy is trying to play baseball while having severe panic attacks, he then goes on the DL to take care of his problems, the right way. Then comes on Reds TV and explains his problems, doesn’t miss a beat and continuesd to lead our team. Hopefully he and doctors have come togther and he has an easy way to control this series matter. On top of an outstanding baseball player, who works very hard at his profession, he seems to be, above all, an outstanding person. Any team would love to have a guy like this on theirs, i am proud to call Joey a Red. I wish him the very best with this continually stressful condition, and hope that the worst is behind him.
So here is my first entry, and also my first blog. A little background info is in my profile. I have a pretty skewed view towards the reds, but an open mind about what changes or improvements need to be made to turn us into “The New Red Machine”! Hopefully we are on the right track to a playoff berth this year, and multiple world series championships down the road.
So with the off day today and the start of a road trip beginning in Toronto and the expected return of Joey Votto this hopes to be a promising turn around. As most know Votto’s absence has really hurt this team, 8-13 without him. I know a lot of talk has been made about his return along with EE’s, Volquez and some bullpen arms, but where do you see the taveras, nix, dickerson and and the rest of the outfeild situation playing out?
Our sure fire center fielder/leadoff man is not living up to his 6 million plus contract so far. We have some good talent in nix, and dickerson. When does ownership and dusty draw the line on Willy? Its great to have Votto back don’t get me wrong, but with willy’s staggering .274 obp, .050 points higher than his average, who is he going to hit in? hes not gonna hit 40-50 hr’s maybe not even 30. So what do we do? i think when our everyday players are back i.e. edwin and votto, that we move slumping bruce to the two hole, in front of votto, phillps and gomes/nix, with hairston leading off. Thoughts?
